A Guide to Online Car Insurance

There are so many types of car insurance in this modern era, all of them are an off-shoot of the three main categories: Third party, Third party, fire and theft and Fully Comprehensive (Fully Comp). This article provides the explanation of the the three main categories, due to the number of insurance providers around it has never been easier or cheaper to get covered.

Fully comp is the most expensive and complete coverage available, this insures the drivers own car against any accidents or failures and also any third party cars that may be involved in the incident. There are many other additional features that are included in this type of policy and they vary from provider to provider. Items such as lost key cover, widescreen cover etc.

The next expensive is third party fire and theft, this level of cover insures the driver from having to pay for damages caused to other people's property whilst insuring the owners car is covered against any fires that may damage the car or theft of the vehicle or contents within it.

The cheapest insurance that is usually taken out by younger or newly qualified drivers is third party, this is similar to the policy above but does not cover against fire or theft.

The other types of cover that come under these categories are policies that are available only to women, short term cover, advanced driver cover etc. From statistical reports it has been shown that women drivers are less likely to be subject to a traffic incident and as such there are companies that only provide cover to women. The fact that they have to pay out less for damages means they save money and offer the consumer part of these savings.

Short term cover is a recent introduction and has been made available so that people can cover cars for a month or two for example if working abroad for a couple of months it may be more cost effective to buy a cheap car insure it for a few months and then sell it once you ready to come home.

Advanced drivers are also shown to be less accident prone than normal drivers and as such specialist companies have been set up to provide cover to this select group of people as well similar to women only insurers. Obtaining an advanced driving certificate displays to the insurer that you are more aware of circumstances on the road and therefore less likely to be involved in traffic incidents.
